"The process of Safety Management is not a gift - we acquire it through learning and personal development. An early step and common request is providing a site specific safety plan - a task that many ask, where do I begin? The Advanced Passport - Workplace Safety Course can show you the way to produce and implement such a plan." Maurie Rohloff, Health and Safety Manager, Lower North Island, The Fletcher Construction Company
An ‘Advanced Passport’ course providing a ‘step-up’ for Passport level trainees, as well as training for those involved in the Site Specific Safety Planning and Task Analysis process.
The Advanced Passport course was developed in response to Industry’s need to implement best practice in site specific safety planning and also to provide a ‘step up’ for Passport level trainees. Safety Culture
The Advanced Passport course looks closely at three influencers of safety culture: belief in the benefits of safety, accountability and behaviour change. This course steps up the trainees knowledge and understanding that it isn’t just the rules and systems that drive culture and behaviour, it is actually a leader’s own involvement in safety activities that make them important and worth doing.
Site Specific Safety Planning and Task Analysis
Site Specific Safety Plans contribute to a project in many ways. In addition to improved planning and productivity, Safety Plans communicate site safety responsibilities and expectations to all parties, and they also form an agreement between main contractors and subcontractors on required safety activities. Site Safety Plans are also an excellent tool to use to monitor that these activities are happening on site. This course will teach trainees how to complete a Site Specific Safety Plan including best practice safety activity and record keeping requirements. It will demonstrate how each activity is carried out on site. The course will also teach trainees how to properly complete the Task Analysis process. To ensure these parts of the course apply to each trainee, they will be taught using cases studies and real jobs carried out throughout the construction industry. Each trainee will select an actual construction job and using it they will complete a Site Specific Safety Plan and a Task Analysis. This will ensure that when undertake or participate in these activities on site, they are competent to complete them.
Improving safety knowledge
To ensure Advanced Passport holders are kept up-to-date with best practice developments in health and safety, a refresher course every two years is required. The next logical step for many trainees after this course will be to attend the Supervisor Gold Card course.
