To keep abreast of the very latest safety management practices and to assist Supervisors in implementing these practices, all holders of the ‘Gold Card' are required to attend a two-yearly Renewal course.
The Renewal course is designed to help Supervisors develop their own practical and specific action plans that they can use to change the way they manage safety on their jobs.
Course Content
Training involves a one-day interactive programme including modules on:

Supervisors will identify their successes and their difficulties from the past two years in implementing safety activities. They will identify actions that they can take to build on their successes, and overcome their difficulties, along with practical methods of integrating safety into their project activities.
Throughout the course, participants will be developing specific actions that they will take to plan safety, monitor performance, train employees, communicate effectively and involve employees in safety decisions. These actions and the dates they will be taken will be entered into their diaries. They will then become their customised and practical plans for changing the way they do their jobs.
Course participants are required to complete a take-home assignment. Participants can also earn NZQA unit standard credits.

The Supervisor Gold Card Update course attracts the following NZQA unit standards:
- 19340 Explain the establishment and operation of a workplace health and safety committee - level 4, 5 credits
- 7103 Determine adult training requirements of individuals - level 4, 4 credits.
