Canterbury Earthquake - Q&A: Interview with Christchurch Regional Manager Richard Giddings

1.      What are the main messages that the Site Safe team is reinforcing on key hazards as a result of the Canterbury earthquake?

The key big issues are:

  • Keeping public safe
  • People working at height as they have no plan to stop themselves from falling
  • The amount of dust and other poisons in the atmosphere from the amount of demolition - this can be partly controlled by dampening down the affected area with a hose
  • Confined space work in demolition sites
  • Do people have an emergency plan?
