Increase flexibility for renewing your site access

All Site Safe Higher Level Courses as Renewal Options

Background to Issue:  Historically some Higher Level Site Safe courses, although step up safety knowledge, do not give Trainees a card allowing 'access to site' after successful completion (namely Height and Harness, Leadership in Safety, Construction Management and Health and Safety Representative).

Agreed Change:  From 1 January 2010 maximum flexibility will be given to those Trainees wishing to renew their site access.

This will mean that provided a Trainee was seeking to renew their site access (having already undertaken a Passport, Advanced Passport or Gold Card), then that Trainee would have the flexibility to choose any one of the suite of Site Safe Higher Level courses to renew their site access. The Trainee's ‘highest' card would then be endorsed with the latest course attended, and the expiry date renewed for a period of two years from the latest course date.

The one over-riding condition however will be that for the Trainee to have the flexibility to choose any one of the suite of Site Safe Higher Level courses to renew their site access, they must have undertaken a Passport course at some stage of their training. (Note: there may be some exceptions to this rule, these will be dealt with on a case by case basis by the Training Team).

Benefits of this change:  Provides greater incentive and options for Passport/Worker level Trainees to take a step up in safety (eg: they could now choose the Height and Harness course or Health and Safety Representative course to renew their Passport site access)

  • Provides greater options for Supervisor level Trainees - who could choose to take a step up to the Construction Management or Leadership in Safety course to renew their Gold Card site access
  • The change still ensures that key base level training (a Passport course as a minimum) has been undertaken, otherwise no renewal site access is given
  • Site Safe are able to provide maximum flexibility and choice for people to renew their training and site access
  • Will allow more people to step up to Higher Level training to advance their own competence, and to improve safety performance and culture within their Organisations.

This change will be effective from 1 January 2010.
