Site Safe Construction Health, Safety and Wellbeing Awards 2019


The Site Safe Construction Health, Safety and Wellbeing Awards acknowledge people, sites or companies/organisations who have demonstrated innovation and leadership in helping to improve health and safety in the construction industry.

Evening of Celebration

These awards are presented annually at the Evening of Celebration (Auckland), along with graduates in the Health and Safety in Construction programme.

2019 award applications have now closed.


2019 Award Categories:

1) The Dominion Constructors Safety Innovation Award Small to Medium Business (Small to medium organisation up to 50 employees)

This Award is for a site or company demonstrating the best new idea or initiative to drive improvements in health and safety systems or behaviours, address or manage a specific hazard or risk, create a design solution to address a problem, or to improve productivity.

2) The Bettabuilt Safety Innovation Award Large Business (Large organisations over 50 employees)

This Award is for a site or company demonstrating the best new idea or initiative to drive improvements in health and safety systems or behaviours, address or manage a specific hazard or risk, create a design solution to address a problem, or to improve productivity.

3) The Mitre 10 Trade Safety Leadership Award (Small, medium or large business)

This Award is for a site or company where an initiative has been implemented that involves organisational leaders in driving health and safety performance through visible and active involvement in health and safety activities. This could include developing safety culture, making safety positive or demonstrating leadership at the highest level. This award is open to organisations of all sizes. Organisational leaders can be the CEO and senior managers in a large company through to the owner (or other person with significance influence) in an SME.

4) The Vero Liability Safety Contribution Award (Individual or small team)

This award is for an individual (or small team) who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to health and safety in construction. This award acknowledges those people who light the spark in other people's minds and inspire positive change and action in the area of health and safety.

5) The Kalmar Mental Health and Wellbeing Award (Company, organisation, team or individual)

This award seeks to recognise a company, organisation, team or individual that has developed, implemented and championed outstanding approaches in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of construction workers, colleagues and friends.

Winners receive

Winners from each category will receive an award trophy, a $1000 gift card from the award category sponsor and a case study feature in Site Safe’s membership magazine ‘Safety Insite.’

Terms and conditions

  • Employees of Site Safe are not eligible to enter or be nominated in these Awards.
  • Nominations open on 1 July 2019 and close on 2 September 2019.
  • Judging of these Awards is entirely neutral and based on merit; however, to avoid the public perception of a conflict of interest and to protect the integrity of these Awards, sponsors are asked not to apply for their own award categories.
  • Judging the Awards will be undertaken by a panel made up of four individuals: an independent expert operating in the field of occupational health and safety in construction industry, a construction industry representative, an employee representative and a Site Safe representative. The names of the judging panel and any discussion will remain confidential and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The judging panel and its representatives reserve the right to verify nominations in each category, for example, by requesting further information or by contacting referees.
  • The judging panel reserves the right to make a special Award that falls outside the prescribed categories, where, in the opinion of the judging panel, a candidate merits recognition not covered by the prescribed categories.
  • Information provided in entries (including any photos provided) may be made publicly available and may also feature in Site Safe coverage unless otherwise requested.
