New Asbestos Guidance
19 Oct 2016
WorkSafe have released an Approved Code of Practice for the management and removal of asbestos.
Asbestos is the single biggest cause of deaths from work-related disease; on average about 170 people die every year from asbestos-related diseases.
The aim of the code is to help reduce the amount of asbestos-related disease by 50 per cent by 2040.
The Code was developed to help businesses comply with the laws around asbestos, including the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
The new Code commences from Thursday, November 3.
The Code is grouped into different sections. Which section you need to read will depend on whether you are:
- a PCBU with management or control of a workplace that might have asbestos
- a PCBU conducting asbestos removal
- a PCBU conducting asbestos-related work, or
- a licensed asbestos assessor.
