From the Chief Executive

Tena koutou,

As we navigate through the current economic fluctuations, the construction industry continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and adaptability. Industry leaders and workers alike have shown an extraordinary capacity to pivot and innovate, ensuring the continuity of projects and maintaining the momentum of progress.

One of the critical aspects that remains constant, irrespective of economic conditions, is a commitment to health and safety. As an industry, we need to prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, because a safe work environment is the cornerstone of productivity and success. An unwavering focus on safety, from rigorous training programs to the implementation of safety technologies, is non-negotiable when it comes to protecting our most valuable assets—our people.

In recent years, we've witnessed significant advancements in construction methodologies and technologies. From the adoption of sustainable building practices to the integration of digital tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and drones, the industry is evolving at a rapid pace. These innovations not only enhance efficiency and quality but also contribute to the overall safety and sustainability of construction projects.

The public tolerance for poor safety practices has dropped markedly over the past decade and for construction to attract new people into the industry, we need to make sure we are walking the talk when it comes to health, safety and wellbeing. By doing so, we can ensure a prosperous and sustainable future, where the ingenuity and hard work of all stakeholders are duly recognised and rewarded.

Looking ahead, the future of the construction industry is undoubtedly bright. The sector's ability to adapt positions it well for continued growth and success. Industry leaders and workers, through their resilience and dedication, will continue to drive this progress, fostering an environment where safety and innovation go hand in hand.
