Who should attend

This course is for anyone who lead investigations or take part in them. If you handle construction incident investigations and prevention processes for your business or projects, this course is for you. The course is open to:

• Business owners.
• Project managers and site managers.
• Contract managers and construction managers.
• Health and safety managers.
• Supervisors and foreman.

If you are renewing your Site Safety Card and have done this course in the past, you don't need to complete this course again. Expand your skills by choosing a different course instead.

What you'll learn

You will learn how to:

• Explain the purpose of incident investigations.
• Conduct an incident investigation using industry-recognised best practices.
• Explain the causes and contributors of incidents.
• Develop practical, preventative recommendations.
• Document and report investigation findings.

At the end of the course, you'll need to complete and submit a take home assignment within 3 months of attending the course.

What you'll get

On completion of the course requirements, you’ll receive:

• A Site Safety Card, valid for 2 years. Most major New Zealand contractors require workers to have a valid Site Safety Card before entering a construction site.
• 8 Licensed Building Practitioner points.
• 6 credits towards our Health and Safety in Construction certificate programme.
• Unit Standard 17601 – Produce an occupational health and safety incident investigation version 6 (Level 4).
• A downloadable and printable e-certificate.

You'll need to complete another Site Safe course every 2 years to keep your Site Safety Card current.

Other courses, languages and regions are available on request – or we may be able to provide you an interpreter or allow you to bring your own interpreter.

Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel or change a booking 5 working days before the start of the course. If you cancel more than 5 days before the start of the course, you will receive a credit on your account to be used within 12 months, or you (or your employer, if they paid for the course) can request a refund:

Within 5 working days of the course starting, you can transfer your seat to another person from the same company. If you cancel, you or your employer will not get a refund.

Changes and cancellations can be made through your account, or through your employer if they booked you on the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this course renew my Site Safety Card?

Yes, if it's your first time. If you've done it before, choose a different course for your renewal.

Does the course count towards a qualification?

It does. You earn Unit Standard 17601 at Level 4 and six credits towards our Health and Safety in Construction certificate programme. Unit standards are awarded once, even if you attend again.

Can I do this course online?

No, this accident investigation training runs in a classroom. If you only need to renew your card, our Passport Plus Flexi course has an online component.
