Who should attend

Workers, contractors or managers who need to be aware of the risks of working at height.

Anyone who is new to working a height.

You must have completed a Foundation course before booking this Passport Plus course.

There are no Unit Standards attached to the Plus - Height course. The course renews your Site Safety Card but does not renew safety harness systems training.

What you'll learn

You will learn how to:

  • keep yourself and others safe onsite
  • develop an understanding of their health and safety responsibilities.

Part one (Behavioural safety):

  • identify the reasons to be safe
  • recognise how role models influence the actions of other workers
  • make health and safety positive through your conversations
  • understand how health and safety culture and mindset is shaped by role models and conversations
  • take action to improve your health and safety.

Part Two (Height safety):

  • review the risk assessment processes and hierarchy of controls
  • identify the hazards and safe use of:
    • mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs)
    • scaffolds and edge protection
    • safety nets and safety mesh
  • identify the types and safe use of safety harness systems
  • identify how to select, set up and use a ladder safely.

At the end of the course, you'll complete a Review of Understanding. This is a set of multiple-choice questions that check your understanding of the key concepts learned during the course.

If you pass, you will be issued a digital Site Safety Card, valid for 2 years.

What you'll get

You'll get:

  • A Site Safety Card, valid for 2 years. Most major New Zealand contractors require workers to have a valid Site Safety Card before entering a construction site.
  • 4 Licensed Building Practitioner points.
  • 3 credits towards our Health and Safety in Construction certificate programme.

If you are renewing your Site Safety Card and have done this course in the past, you don't need to complete this course again. Expand your skills by choosing a Foundation Plus course instead.

If you miss the course

If you don't attend a course you're signed up for, we will notify the person who purchased the course. They will not be entitled to a refund.

Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel or change a booking up to 5 working days before the start of the course. If you cancel more than 5 days before the start of the course, you will receive a credit on your account to be used within 12 months, or you (or your employer, if they paid for the course) can request a refund by:

Refunds are usually processed in 7 to 14 days.

Within 5 working days of the course starting, you can transfer your seat to another person from the same company. If you cancel, you or your employer will not get a refund.

Changes and cancellations can be made through your account, or through your employer if they booked you on the course.
