This risk management training is for experienced onsite or offsite workers looking to build their knowledge and skills in managing workplace risk and health and safety culture.
If you are renewing your Site Safety Card and have done this course in the past, you don’t need to complete this course again. Expand your skills by choosing a different course instead.
What you'll learn
You will learn how to:
- Describe the principles of health and safety risk assessment.
- Apply recognised legal requirements for managing Health & Safety applying in the workplace.
- Identify key hazards in the workplace using recognised hazard identification procedures.
- Assess and control health and safety risks using recognised risk management methods.
- Identify methods to monitor managed risks and review the risk management process.
- Identify actions that could be undertaken to improve workplace health and safety culture.
At the end of the course, you'll need to complete and submit a take home assignment within 3 months of attending the course.
What you'll get
On completing this risk management training, you’ll receive:
- A Site Safety Card, valid for 2 years. Most major New Zealand contractors require workers to have a valid Site Safety Card before entering a construction site.
- 8 Licensed Building Practitioner points.
- 8 credits towards our Health and Safety in Construction certificate programme.
- NZQA Unit Standard 30265 - Apply health and safety risk assessment to a job role - level 3, 8 NZQA credits
- A downloadable and printable e-certificate.

Minimum requirements for the best webinar learning experience:
- A good level of digital literacy.
- Use a PC, laptop or tablet (not a mobile phone).
- Use one of the following recommended browsers and operating systems:
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge browser
- Windows 8.1, 10, or 11 Macs need to be at least on Ventura (13.77) operating systems

Cancellations and refunds
You can cancel or change a booking 5 working days before the start of the course. If you cancel more than 5 days before the start of the course, you will receive a credit on your account to be used within 12 months, or you (or your employer, if they paid for the course) can request a refund:

Within 5 working days of the course starting, you can transfer your seat to another person from the same company. If you cancel, you or your employer will not get a refund.
Changes and cancellations can be made through your account, or through your employer if they booked you on the course.

FAQs
Who should attend, and do I need prior experience?
It’s designed for experienced onsite or offsite workers who are ready to go beyond foundation-level compliance, including team leaders, supervisors, and health and safety managers. There’s no formal prerequisite, but because it sits at leadership level, most people come to it after completing a Foundation Passport course.
Is there an assignment?
Yes. There’s a take-home assignment, and you’ll need to complete and submit it within 3 months of attending the course.
What card, credits and LBP points do I get?
On successful completion, you’ll receive a Site Safety Card valid for 2 years, 8 Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) points, 8 credits towards the Health and Safety in Construction certificate programme, and NZQA Unit Standard 30265 (Level 3, 8 NZQA credits), plus a downloadable e-certificate.
How long is it, and what formats are available?
You can attend in the classroom or by webinar, so you can pick the format that suits your team. Check the course page for the latest session times and dates. Whichever format you choose, the take-home assignment is due within 3 months.
Does this course renew my Site Safety Card?
Yes. Completing Risk Management renews your Site Safety Card for another 2 years, so it counts as both upskilling and renewal.
I’ve done this course before, can I use it again to renew?
If you’ve completed Risk Management before and just need to renew your card, choose a different course instead. Any eligible Site Safe course renews your Site Safety Card, and picking a new one broadens your skills rather than repeating what you already know.
