Worker, Leading Hand and Foremen
As a Worker, Leading Hand or Foremen see the suggested pathway below to achieve the Health and Safety in Construction programme.
It is recommended you achieve your programme through a mix of courses and workplace evidence gathering. You will need to gain a minimum of 40 credits to achieve this Level 3 qualification.
While this is the suggested pathway, you have the flexibility to tailor the pathway to suit your needs, for more information see our customised pathway.
Site Safe courses
Recommended Site Safe courses:
- Foundation Passport course (2 credits)
- Passport Plus course (3 credits)
- First Aid Construction Safety (2 credits)
- Site-Specific Safety Planning (7 credits) *
- Leadership in Safety (7 credits) *
- Health and Safety Representatives (9 credits)
- Risk Management (8 credits) *
Total = 38 credits
*mandatory courses: you must complete two of the three mandatory one or two-day courses as part of your learner pathway. The mandatory courses are; Site Specific Safety Planning, Risk Management and Leadership in Safety.
Recognised Unit Standards
Site Safe will also recognise a selection of Unit Standards that you have achieved through other providers and count them towards your programme credits. For more info see the programme handbook.
Workplace evidence
Workplace evidence is taking a piece of learning and applying it to your everyday job or role. Site Safe want to see that you can apply the knowledge you learn on course in real life. This evidence could be documents, resources, images, videos or similar.
Suggested workplace evidence:
- Site Incidents and Injury Register (1 credit)
- Hazardous Products and Substances Register (1 credit)
- Visitor Induction Register (1 credit)
- Recognition/Recognising Safe Workplace Practice (1 credit)
If you have followed your recommended learner pathway courses, you will need to submit at least two pieces of workplace evidence.

Please note, you must purchase access to the USB to submit workplace evidence, including if you submit your own company versions. Workplace evidence submitted without purchasing access will not be accepted or processed.
Graduation
Once you have competed the required courses and workplace evidence, and have achieved 40 credits, you are ready to graduate!
We hold annual graduation events in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Alternatively, you can opt to receive your certificate in the mail after graduation events are complete.
