COVID-19 Protocols

As an industry, we’ve come together to develop a framework to keep our workers, their whānau and the wider community healthy and safe by preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Site Safe has worked with industry and government to update the COVID-19 Construction Protocols in anticipation of Alert Level 2. This update brings the protocols into line with what will be permitted at Level 2, including changes to physical distancing and travel. The Alert level 2 Vertical and Horizontal Construction Protocols are now available by clicking here.

The information in this framework should be used to develop a plan specific to your project, site and business risks. This plan must then be communicated to workers and all relevant stakeholders – with the aim of creating a safe and respectful work environment for everyone. This framework has been developed in accordance with government advice and is designed to sit alongside your usual health and safety controls.

The framework consists of:

  • an overarching standard with high-level principles that must be adhered to
  • more detailed protocols providing ‘how to’ guidance which can then be adapted on a site by site basis.

The protocols are a living document which will be kept updated by a working party of health and safety practitioners from across industry. If you have any questions or suggestions about the protocols, please complete the Ask an Advisor form on the Site Safe website.
