Site Safe are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our industry. We already work closely with key partners like MATES in Construction and Hato Hone St John, but we are very conscious that over 80% of our members are small businesses that don't have ready access to effective tools and resources to support a mentally healthy workplace.

Our partnership with Ignite Aotearoa means our members can opt-in to create a free Ignite Aotearoa account by completing this form.

Ignite Aotearoa is a wellbeing social enterprise backed by Emerge Aotearoa – one of the largest independent mental health and social service organisations in New Zealand. Ignite Aotearoa’s mental health and wellbeing offerings are evidence-based, easy to access, flexible, and affordable, with a focus on partnering with workplaces to enhance employee wellbeing.

The Ignite Aotearoa platform hosts a range of resources, information, workshops, and one-on-one support services. These services include time with a coach (in leadership, career, or performance); counsellor, psychologist, or other mental health professional; financial advisor or mentor; or dietitian.

We have sponsored an initial 100 one-on-one support sessions, so our members can try out one of the additional services offered by the platform. These sponsored sessions are limited to one per member business and are allocated on a first-in-first-served basis.

Site Safe members can also take advantage of a special offer to give their employees individual access to the Ignite platform, resources, and services.

Site Safe and Ignite Aotearoa’s aligned values means our priority of providing support for mental health and wellbeing can continue to happen for our members through this partnership.

A 2019 research report into suicide in New Zealand's construction industry found that in the 10 years between 2007 and 2017, 300 construction workers died by suicide. Of these suicide cases, the report found 32.3% recorded work-related factors, and 99% of cases were men. The report found no single driver of suicide in the construction industry, and that causes were always complex with a combination of personal and work-related factors contributing to workers’ taking their lives.

Since the release of this report, awareness of mental health and wellbeing and its importance has increased, and there has been acknowledgement from industry that mentally healthy and well workplaces have benefits for health and safety, worker productivity, and businesses.
